Great privileges from the recent collaboration of EastWest, Mastercard, and Singapore Airlines

- Text DONG RONQUILLO

It’s been years since I’ve been back to Singapore. I have a lot of friends there, remnants of my ten-year Unilever stint, and I miss them terribly. Singapore is a global financial center, with a tropical climate similar to the Philippines and a multi-cultural community with a lot of expatriates. It’s a progressive first world country, with buildings upon buildings. Over the years, I’ve seen how Singapore has progressed and developed into a global powerhouse. The food and bar scene has evolved so much with the emergence of various rooftop bars, global players, and the proliferation of top Asian and Michelinrated restaurants. Not only that, there are more things to do, especially for families, at Sentosa Island, Universal Studios, and other various activities like the night and lumina safari and zoo. Of course, it is still a shopping destination for luxury brands in Asia. Above all, it is one of the safest countries to live in the world. Indeed, it's not only a tourist destination but also an ideal place to live in.

It’s flag carrier, Singapore Airlines is one of the most regarded airlines in the world in terms of aircraft, personnel, food, and service. It is without a doubt an airline that doesn’t only represent Asian hospitality but the region's ability to compete in a world-class platform globally. It is an airline that has raised the bar in the industry and has since become a benchmark for service. In this trip, I had the opportunity to experience Singapore Airlines’ new A350 aircraft. It was indeed an exciting journey that started with a smooth airport check-in. Certainly, I can say that the KrisFlyer lounge is one of the lounges in Manila that is world-class.

The Singapore Airlines’ A350 has very sleek interiors, sophisticated lighting, along with comfortable and relatively wider and longer business class seats. It is one if not the most sophisticated seat in terms of controls, amenities and the entertainment system is something to look forward to. Singapore Airlines flies via its hub in Singapore, where it can conveniently fly to anywhere in the world and a fleet that tops the industry. Given the chance, I would fly it every time I go to Europe and the United States.

THE EASTWEST SINGAPORE AIRLINES KRISFLYER PLATINUM MASTERCARD

Great news to everyone who loves to travel and loves Singapore Airlines. EastWest, Mastercard, and Singapore Airlines came up with the best airline co-brand credit card there is. The EastWest Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Platinum Mastercard is one of a kind. It opens up more opportunities to earn miles faster. With this new travel card, jetsetters can earn up to three times KrisFlyer miles for every fortyfive pesos spent when they purchase tickets from Singapore Airlines Group, or use the card for overseas and online purchases (i.e. airlines, hotels, car rentals, or even shopping). That is so much better than other airline credit cards. If you use it locally, for every forty-five peso spend, it will be equal to one KrisFlyer mile. So where best to use it? International websites and while traveling abroad.

Spend P100,000 within 3 months from card activation date and get the welcome bonus miles of three thousand

KrisFlyer miles. Easy right? That’s just paying for a five-night hotel stay in Europe or a business class ticket to Europe or the United States. Moreover, if I spend one hundred thousand within 12 months from my card approval date, I get an extra five thousand KrisFlyer miles! I can get 5,000 bonues KrisFlyer miles every year thereafter as long as I reach one hundred thousand retail spend within each anniversary year. I was very thankful to have recieved an Eastwest Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Mastercard, because in one month I was able to gain eight thousand miles.

The EastWest Singapore Airline Krisflyer Platinum Mastercard cardholders also get to enjoy twice-a-year free access to over 1,200 Priority Pass VIP airport lounges around the world. In case there is no available business class seat for you, you can still access the lounge. Singapore Airlines’ SilverKris Lounge has luxurious well-lit space like no other. It offers a sumptuous selection of delectable dishes and drinks for you to enjoy while waiting for your flight. Shower and

freshen up for the long trip ahead. And of course sleep, lounge, or continue to work at your convenience, in a very conducive s environment. To add, it has free concierge services. Conveniently call a lifestyle manager to explore travel benefits and personalized travel recommendations customized to your needs and wants.

LUXURY SHOPPING EXPERIENCE

For a frequent traveler like me, who probably leaves every month, and a self-confessed shopaholic, using the EastWest Singapore Airline Krisflyer Mastercard is the best thing that ever happened. It has a very low or probably even the lowest foreign currency conversion rate of 1.70%. Shop with no worries, this card has your back.

Shopping in Singapore or any other international destination will be more pleasurable with this credit card.

I’ve experienced it during my last trip to Singapore, and one of the places I’ve visited is the newly renovated Funan Digital Lifestyle Mall. It is now more lifestyle-based with a different and exciting shopping experience. You can visit and create your own scent at Scentbysix. Interestingly they actually have a scent inspired by our famous beach, Boracay! You can check out some chic local fashion brands, such as Love Bonito, or consult Carrie K regarding her one of a kind customizable pieces of jewelry and wide selection of pearls. I love their jewelry and accessory designs as they are chic, young, and flexible depending on your personality or mood. Before heading out to another shopping mall, we ate at this hidden gem Noka at the rooftop of Funan. It’s a Japanese restaurant of local creation but headed by a Japanese chef, and I was blown away by the food and its quality. They produce their own ingredients and cook with Japanese technique. We ordered the tasting menu, and we couldn’t get enough of every dish! It was that good, that when I go back to Singapore, I would want to eat there again.

THE THRILL OF ADVENTURE

After a long day in the city, it’s nice to head back to Sentosa, where we were checked-in. An island resort, Southern coast of Singapore. Resorts World Sentosa Singapore offers a wide range of world-class hotels to choose from. Stay at the Hard Rock Hotel, Ocean Suite, TreeTop Loft, or even at The Palace. It’s nestled on an island away from the hustle and bustle of the city to enjoy quality time with friends and family. There are so many things to do, explore, and discover in this place. You can opt to go to Universal Studios and enjoy some exciting rides, or visit the S.E.A. Aquarium or even dive with the dolphins.

Another way to use the EastWest Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Mastercard is to indulge in Michelin-rated restaurants. I had the opportunity to eat at ‘table 65’ at Resorts World Sentosa. Chefs Richard van Oostenbrugge and Thomas Groot of the famous and critically acclaimed ‘restaurant 212’ in Amsterdam opened their first restaurant outside of the Netherlands. An open kitchen format, where you can even interact with the Sous chefs and watch them prepare your food is a distinct and fun concept. This restaurant prides themselves on an adventurous take on fine dining, and that it should be fun. I certainly had fun not just on devouring everything that was prepared from the tasting menu but also bantering and asking questions to the chefs. The food effectively brought out the true essence and flavors of the food. You can taste the realness of each of the ingredients. It was indeed a very satisfying feeling. Every dish was plated creatively. Indeed it was a leveled up dining experience that touches all senses. Another musttry restaurant at Resorts World Sentosa is the Ocean restaurant. Bask and watch in wonder with the sharks and manta rays while dining on Mediterranean-Californian creations procured from sustainable sources. The food did not disappoint and was made more interesting and memorable by the huge aquarium that surrounds you.

With the best conversion rates, VIP lounge access, lifestyle concierge, the fastest way of earning miles, and one of the best airlines in the world, what more can you ask for? Plus, you have the convenience and luxury of a stopover in one of the best airports in the world. Changi Airport is one airport where you can stay even for a day without ever getting bored. Attractions such as the ‘Jewel’, sophisticated culinary choices, spas, luxurious shopping sprees, and more awaits any passenger. Indeed, EastWest Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Mastercard is not only the perfect travel companion, but it is also in a class of its own.
