- By FRANCO G. REGALA

SASMUAN, Pampanga — At least 10,000 “barangay tanod” (village watchmen) from all over the province will be effectively mobilized to assist law enforcers particularly the Philippine National Police (PNP) in combating the proliferation of illegal drugs in province.

This came as barangay tanod vowed to combat illegal drug related crimes in their respective areas of jurisdictions during the Pampanga AntiDrug Summit held recently. The drug summit is expected to cover all two cities and 18 municipalities, with Bacolor as the last town where the summit will be set.

The governor instructed all tanod to make the whole province of Pampanga number one in anti-crime prevention by making the province free from drug menace. She is also optimistic that the tanods under the leadership of their respective village chiefs will be working together in achieving a more peaceful and drug-free Pampanga.

The governor also challenged the tanods and the local officials to be more vigilant and work hard in monitoring drug users, pushers and in apprehending bad elements in their respective areas of jurisdiction.

“Let us become effective partners of the local police and elected officials in strengthening our efforts in the prevention of crime and maintenance of peace and order,” Pineda said.
