Petron eyes 6th PSL win vs Cignal

Games Today (Cuneta Astrodome) 2 p.m. – Cignal vs Petron (women’s) 4 p.m. – Generika vs Foton (women’s) 6 p.m. – Cignal vs PLDT (men’s)

Petron is out to protect its immaculate record when it opens its secondround campaign against Cignal today in the 2014 Philippine Superliga (PSL) Grand Prix at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.

Gametime is at 2 p.m. with the Blaze Spikers out to extend their winning streak to six games after sweeping the first round.

Though they beat Cignal in the first round, Petron Coach George Pascua remains wary knowing the HD Spikers are eager to beat them.

“Kailangan naming mag-ingat kasi kami na yung tinitingnan ng mga teams,” Pascua said.

To dodge the upset bid of Cignal, Pascua said they have to tighten up their defensive alignment by playing cohesive and aggressive.

“Mas magiging aggressive pa kami kasi siyempre lahat ng teams na-gauge na yung laro namin. Kailangan pa naming mag-level-up,” he added.

They ought to as the HD Spikers are eager to bounce back from an upset loss to Generika last Wednesday.

Pascua is hoping that his local ace Honey Royse Tubino and import Sarah Ammerman will recover from mediocrity the last time.

If not, Pascual said they will be in for a tough grind.

Meanwhile, Foton and Generika try to boost their semis bids when they clash at 4 p.m.

Like the Lifesavers, the Tornadoes are also coming off an inspiring victory Mane ’N Tail.

The win enabled Foton to barge into the win-column after dropping all their five games in the first round.

With imports Elena and Irina Tarasova back in fighting form after getting sick, the Tornadoes are confident of notching their second straight win.

“We’re finally healthy,” said Poncede Leon. “It was a morale-boosting win. Papataas na ang laro ng mga bata. I hope this would be the start of something good for us.”

The Lifesavers on the other hand felt like they finally got the breakthrough that they were looking for after their victory over the HD Spikers.

With imports Miyu Shinohara and Natalia Korobkova finally playing beautiful music together, Generika coach Ramil de Jesus has all the reasons to be optimistic as they open their second round campaign today.

“That win reminded the girls that they can still hang with the best teams in the league,” De Jesus said.

Rounding up the game day is the men’s match-up between Cignal and PLDT set at 6 p.m.
