Motorbike rider dies, 2 others injured in Isabela smashup

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan — Another motorcycle driver was killed after figuring in a highway mishap the other day in Barangay Tagaran, Cauayan City, Isabela, a belated police report said.

Police identified the fatality as Loyal Cabangbang, 24, of Barangay Dangan, Reina Mercedes, Isabela province, while his passengers, Mary Joy Gallangi 26 and Erna Soriano 18 were injured.

Initial investigation disclosed that Cabangbang tried to overtake another vehicle but instead slammed into a van travelling in the opposite direction and driven by Joey Andrada, 22.

Witnesses and residents in the area transported the victims to hospital but Cabangbang expired along the way.

Police said the van driver turned himself in hours after the incident.

Numerous fatal road accidents involving motorcycles have been reported in the region in the past few months. (Freddie G. Lazaro)
