Who says brushing can’t be fun?

-

As parents, seeing your kids flash their brightest smiles can be the most priceless sight in the world–a precious “picture perfect” moment.

But let’s face it. Convincing your kids to brush their teeth is not easy.

“Even if I ask my four-yearold in a nice way or pretend to get angry at her, it just doesn’t work,” shares Emily Bunagan of Pasig.

What most moms don't know is that their choice of toothpaste is also crucial. Kids love toothpastes with flavors like, for instance, Hapee Kiddie Toothpaste, which has seven unique flavors.

Here are a few more tips on how to get your kids to brush those teeth.

Give Him a Choice.

Let him choose his own toothbrush, and toothpaste flavor. A colourful toothbrush, one with an attractive packaging, and a fruity flavor for toothpaste will get kids excited about brushing.

Sing Along.

Do you know that it takes at least two minutes to get your child’s teeth clean enough? So while brushing up and down, left and right, start humming a simple children’s music or nursery rhyme for two minutes. Or sing the Happy Birthday Song twice.

Take It Slow.

As expected, your child won’t be as good as you are when it comes to brushing. Don’t stress over the times when he misses a spot. The more important thing at this stage is to make brushing a fun habit. With practice, he’ll get better at it.

Be Encouraging.

Praise your kid whenever he brushes his teeth well. Say words of encouragement like “Happy brushing!” or “Cavity monsters are gone!” You can also entice him with yummy toothpaste flavors. Reward him everytime he accomplishes his day-today brushing regimen.

Accompany Your Child.

Brush with your kid. Kids love to imitate and who better to show him how to properly brush his teeth than you?

Find An Ally.

While brushing teeth regularly helps keep cavities at bay, you should not forget to visit the dentist once, every year.
