NPD cops undergo drug test

- By ED MAHILUM

The Northern Police District (NPD) yesterday conducted a random drug test on its own men and women to determine if there are any drug dependents within their ranks.

The drug test was ordered by newly designated NPD director Jonathan Ferdinand G. Miano as part of its cleansing process in his jurisdiction in the CAMANAVA (Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, Valenzuela) area.

Those who went through the drug test yesterday included members of the district's anti-illegal drug (DAID), operatives of the the station anti-illegal drugs (SAID) of the four police stations and members of the district's special operation unit (DSOU.)

Chief Inspector Arnulfo Ybanez, chief of the District's Anti-Illegal Drugs (DAID) of the NPD led the drug test conducted by the NPDs Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) at the NPD headquarters in Dagat-dagatan yesterday afternoon.

Sr. Insp. Fortunato TY Ecle, anti-drug chief of the Caloocan police, said 24 of their members, including himself, took the drug test.

The results will be known a day after the drug test and those who will test positive will be told to undergo rehabilitation, an official said.

An official said: "Maganda nga yan para malaman kung sino gumagamit ng droga o hindi."( Its good to determine who uses illegal drugs or not.)”

Some officials said the drug test was definitely an offshoot of the incident in the Manila Police Department where some members of the anti-drug unit were relieved on suspicion that they were engaged in illegal drug activities.
