Art in Glass
French designer Rene Jules Lalique has gained global accolades for his hallmark glassware, decorative luxury accessories, interior pieces, jewelry, and perfume. The brand is known as both a luxury brand and one that carries a rich, cultural heritage.
Recently, Rustan’s Lalique boutique was turned into an indoor garden with sampaguitas that hung from the ceiling and fabulous flower arrangements all around, enhancing the beauty and artistry of Chito Antonio’s interior design.
Lalique notables Roger Von Der Weid, CEO of Lalique Southeast Asia, and Daniel Ong, managing director of Lalique Southeast Asia, came to toast the unveiling of Lalique’s spirited new collection with the brand’s signature contrast of clear and satin finished crystal, in beautifully handcrafted sculptural pieces. Also present during the launch were Bienvenido Tantoco, Sr., president Emeritus of Rustan’s; Donnie Tantoco, president of Rustan’s Commercial Corporation; Dina Tantoco, Rustan’s marketing and communications head; and the other members of the Tantoco clan— Rico Tantoco, Cathy Huang, Michael Huang, Marilen Tantoco, Maritess Tantoco Enriquez, and Paolo Tantoco.
Having set a high standard for over a century, Lalique continues to come up with masterpieces that attract a loyal following of clients who are inter- ested in timeless, avant garde pieces. Recently, Iraqi-British architect Zaha Hadid collaborated with Lalique for the “Crystal Architect” collection. A part of the collection, the visio vase is a representation of natural forms of beauty, similar to running water or air currents. Manifesto vase, on the other hand, is a symbol of infinite fluid lines while the tanega vase— named after the island southwest of Japan’s Osumi archipelago—is colored amber with an injected leaf from the gingko tree, one of the oldest in the world.
Lalique has also collaborated with other brands in creating special editions and custom services— the 100 points collection in partnership with wine critic James Suckling, the Flying B fragrance and paperweight, Soundboard Aerosystem by musician Jean-Michel Jarre, and with automotive luxury brands Jaguar and Bentley. www.tinajacinto.com
