Learning the ropes, having the ‘Gutz’
Elvis Gutierrez and Alexandra Uichico are still adjusting to parenthood but both attest to the experience being quite rewarding. “Yeah, worth it talaga,” Elvis said, describing their baby Aria as “sobrang cute and healthy.”
Alexa said with a laugh, “When she cries, she reminds us of Tita Annabelle (Rama).” She shared that Aria could wail so loud it could be heard all over their house.
Alexa also described her daughter as “so tsismosa.”
“She likes to listen to tsismis, parang si Tita A. ’ Pag maingay, gustung- gusto niya,” she said.
It is Elvis who wakes up when Baby Aria cries for milk at night. He also has no qualms about diaper duties. “Iba ’ yung feeling eh. Ganu’n pala ’ yung feeling ’ pag daddy ka na, talagang masaya pala to do stuff for your kid.”
Majority of the tasks, however, goes to Alexa. “From 8 to 4, he (Elvis) has work, so kawawa naman. ’ Di na nga siya nakakatulog dahil iyak nang iyak si baby, ta’s siya pa ’yung mag-aalaga sa morning, so ako na,” Alexa explained. “Super tiring, but very happy naman.”
Despite living with the Gutierrezes for some three years now, Alexa is still getting the hang of being officially part of the second season of “It Takes Gutz to be a Gutierrez.”
“Nanibago ako sa reality show ( laughs), sa mga interview, grabe,” she said.
She learned that as part of the clan, “hindi ka makakatago ng secret. ’Pag sinabi mo sa isang tao, alam na ng buong pamilya...”
Alexa is close to Annabelle. “Sa start, of course, super nahihiya ako sa kanya, naninibago ako. But since I worked for her (during the 2013 elections when Annabelle ran and lost as congresswoman), every day kami magkasama, and then minsan natutulog na kami sa same bed, we got really close,” she related.
Elvis kidded, “Siya na ’ yung tinatawagan, hindi na ako.”
Alexa welcomes the growing bond between her and the Gutierrez matriarch, especially since she has already lost her mother. “So ’ pag nawalan ka ng mommy, ta’s may isang tao na nagma- mommy sa ’yo, gusto mo ’yun eh. It’s a good thing din na nag- jive ’yung personality namin.”
Elvis and Alexa are setting their sights on getting married, with a lot of help from Annabelle.
“Si Tita ang nagpa- plan ng wedding for us. ( Siya ang) nagko- complete na ng listahan, siya ’yung mas excited,” Alexa said. “Dati ’pag pumupunta kami ng Cebu, ‘Alexa, dito ka na magpapakasal.’ Kahit saan kami pupunta, siya ’yung nagsasabi.”
