Iconic OPM singers to hold one-night only concert at Solaire

- By JOJO P. PANALIGAN

No one can dispute the indelible marks that Hajji Alejandro, Rico J. Puno, Rey Valera and Marco Sison have made in the local entertainment industry. Not just recognizable celebrities but respected artists with careers that span decades, the number of hit songs they’ve chalked up collectively is enough to fill a three- hour long concert and then some.

In an interview, they said that their fans so love their originals that many keep count which ones they perform at any given night. Their followers are so loyal to the four singers that they often bring their families with them to their shows. Some watch their shows three, four times – to the point that they’ve already memorized some of their jokes, and even feel bad when they miss these.

The four have been doing shows as a group for a decade or so now, and they are equally in- demand abroad. They say that thanks to the Internet, fans could revisit their songs and the younger generation get the chance to acquaint themselves with some of the greatest OPM music in its glory days such as “Nakapagtataka” ( Hajji), “May Bukas Pa” (Rico), “Kung Kailangan Mo Ako” ( Rey) and “My Love Will See You Through” ( Marco), among so many others.

It’s never a boring show whenever the four take to the stage. Because they have genuine friendship and tested camaraderie, they blend effortlessly in terms of music, and each one can anticipate when a joke is be- ing set up and so selflessly give way to whoever delivers the punch line.

Even when it comes to billing and talent fee, Hajji, Rico, Rey and Marco have no issue on whatever deemed “hierarchy” there is among them, so long as they are able to bring their music to the audience.

Back from their successful US tour this month, the four singers will hold a one-night concert titled “OPM Legends: The Reunion” at the Solaire Resort & Casino on Nov. 21 at 8: 30 p.m. The show is produced by Star- media En - tertainment. Special guest that night is Solenn Heussaff, with a special perfor- mance by Ybeth Garcia.

“OPM Legends: The Reunion” is for the benefit of PMA Makatao Class of 1989 Foundation. Tickets to the show are available at SM Tickets and TicketWorld outlets.

The other hit songs of Hajji, Rico, Rey and Marco are “Si Aida, Si Lorna O Si Fe,” “Macho Gwapito,” “Maging Sino Ka Man,” “Kay Ganda Ng Ating Musika,” “Ang Tao’y Marupok,” “Walang Kapalit,” “Malayo Pa Ang Umaga,” “I’ll Face Tomorrow,” “Make Believe” and “Tayong Dalawa.”
