success of last year’s job fair in the province, it was not hard for MB to go back to the venue, bringing with them more than 20 companies for the 1,001 applicants.

The success of the job fair will not be possible without the team work of the different departments of Manila Bulletin, headed by the Classified Ads together with the Marketing and Logistics, Branding, Editorial, Graphics, Corporate Communications, Online, Transportation, Production, and the Circulation departments.

As 2014 nears its end, and with the last leg of job fairs happening on November 20 and 21, Manila Bulletin has its loyal partners to thank for.

“We are overly grateful to our sponsors,” says MB Classifieds Advertising Vice President Lyne Abanilla. “They’ve stayed with us throughout the eight fairs—the first year that we had the most number of job fairs—and we hope to partner with them next year,” she adds.

The eight and last leg of MB Classifieds Job Fair features 52 companies led by platinum sponsors 51Talk, Afni, Concentrix, UHG and gold sponsors AXA, BPI-PhilAm, Cognizant, EGS / RMH, GMA 7, Harte Hanks, Jobstreet, Real Page Phil., Inc., Sitel, Sutherland, Teleperformance, and Transcom.

When Manila Bulletin announced last year that it will have more and bigger job fairs in store for 2014, the country’s leading newspaper was not joking.

At the end of the first quarter, the first of the series of eight job fairs was rolled out. With more than 50 companies from the BPO, retail, recruitment, manufacturing, I. T., real estate, banking and telecommunications sectors, the first job fair was held at the Mega Trade Hall of SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City last March 6 and 7. The two- day event drew almost 3,000 applicants, with a former international ballet dancer getting hired on the spot. Forty-nine-year- old Ariel Adina earned himself a customer service representative (CSR) position at Sykes Asia, Inc., one of the BPO companies who joined the event.

On April 22 and 23, around 4,000 job seekers trooped to the Activity Center of Trinoma Mall in Quezon City for the second leg of the job fair—the biggest turn- out so far this year. With the graduation season just coming to an end, 42 firms showed their support and hoped to hire new employees. Around 98 applicants were able to find employment that day, including Hanna Sales, a Financial Management graduate who was hired by AXA Philippines, and Margareth Balmores, a Marketing Management graduate who secured a customer service support position for Convergys’ premium account.

Known as the country’s financial center, Makati City was the next stop for the MB Classifieds Job Fair. There were 11 companies who joined the job fair for the first time at the Glorietta Activity Center last May 13 and 14. The new participants included Ayala Land, Megaworld, Lisa Migration, Wells Fargo, SL Temps, Karamar Corp., LBP Service, Abenson, Staff Alliance, and ALS Marine.

Two fresh graduates with degrees in Information Technology were hired during this third leg. Sheila Marie Pelicano and Kinrey Belleza, both first-time job fair participants, landed CSR positions at C3.

Enjoining PWDs

This year was also the first time that MB specifically called out to Persons with disabilities ( PWDs) to join its July 29 and 30 job fair at SM Megamall. A special lane was designated specifically for PWDs as a way to celebrate National Disability Week that month. Companies were also asked to indicate in their booths if they were hiring PWDs.

United Health Group and Maersk Global Services were platinum sponsors during this leg. New players from other industries like insurance, transportation, manufacturing, car rental and food also joined.

A former seafarer and Bohol native were hired on the spot on the last day of the fourth leg. Both walk-in applicants, Rommel Valenzuela and Niño John Nuez became the newest members of C3’s CSR team. Braving the storm, going beyond

Metro Manila The MB Classifieds Job Fair was not spared from typhoons and massive traffic congestion that the country experienced this year. The August 26 opening of the fifth job fair was not without delays due to the traffic caused by non- stop rain the night before. Nevertheless, almost 2,000 applicants who were determined to land a decent job lined up to check the hundreds of job openings from 36 participating companies at the Trinoma Mall. One of these companies is English online teaching company, 51 Talk, who is currently one of the platinum sponsors in the upcoming SM SkyDome job fair.

Typhoon Mario came to the Philippines on the third week of September, bringing rains and floods all over Metro Manila and nearby provinces. The first MB job fair in Central Luzon was not spared. Still, hundreds of Kapampangans— and even other nationalities—joined the sixth leg held at Marquee Mall in Angeles City last September 19 and 20.

For the second time around, MB went to Sta. Rosa Laguna and held a job fair in SM City. Inspired by the
