Fish patrols tightened

-

BINANGONAN, Rizal — To ensure the compliance of local fishermen in the existing national and local laws on fishing, police and military personnel started conducting dialogues and boat patrolling in the fishing villages here. Binangonan Police Chief Inspector Bartolome Marigondon said policemen visited Barangay Libis recently to inspect fish pens and cages to ensure that owners of the fishing facilities are complying with the requirements set by national and local laws. More than half of the town residents here including those residing in the island villages of Talim are dependent on fishing as their primary means of livelihood. Marigondon said reports of illegal fishing using dynamite to catch fish are scarce as members of the Philippine Coast Guard and the police conduct regular boat patrolling in the coastal villages here.
