New Babatngon Vice Mayor proclaimed

TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Manila proclaimed yesterday Winston B. Menzon , re-electionis­t Liberal Party bet for Vice Mayor of Babatngon, Leyte in proclamati­on rites at the Comission on Elections (Comelec) central office in Intramuros, Manila. The proclamati­on came after the Comelec declared as null and void the candidacy of vice mayoralty candidate Marcelina Engle who replaced her late husband and Vice Mayoralty candidate James Engle, an independen­t candidate who died before the local elections. Menzon is now on his last term as vice mayor of their municipali­ty and was also former town councilor Menzon’s proclamati­on came after Comelec, under acting Chairman Christian S. Lim issued a writ of execution directing the special municipal board of canvassers of Babatngon town to proclaim re-electionis­t Menzon as winner in the May 2013 elections. Menzon’s proclamati­on was made by Comelec lawyer Abigail Justice Cuarisma-Ilagan, acting as chair, along with Vice Chairman Rex C. Laudiangco and Director Ester Villaflor. (Nestor L. Abrematea)
