CEU holds Tourism Festival 2015
Centro Escolar University ( CEU) showcased the culture of the Philippines through its Grand Tourism Festival 2015 held last February 26 and 27.
CEU Tourism adviser Janelle Qua said that the event is the university’s way of preparing the Tourism students for the real world. “If they want to be experts in the tourism industry, they should start now,” she said. “If they are this hard working today, what more if they enter the real world? They are more than prepared.”
The event highlighted the importance of the tourism industry through several tourism activities which were participated in by students which included the “Lakan and Lakambini ng Turismo” and the annual Grand Tourism Dance Festival.
In the dance festival, which had the junior (first and second year students) and senior’s division (third and fourth years), the students presented dance numbers showing the different festivals in the country.
The class that presented Zamboanga’s Hermosa Festival won the junior’s division while the section that portrayed Bacolod’s Maskara festival reigned supreme among other competitors.
The Lakan and Lakambini 2015 pageant was brought home by Ryan Chua who represented Bukidnon and Allyssa Encarnacion who represented Aklan.
CEU vice president for student affairs Carlito Olaer said that the Grand Tourism Festival only shows that tourism is active in the Philippines.
“The way I see it, it’s definitely true that Philippine tourism is alive. And it is alive in CEU,” he said.
He added that the event brings more knowledge about the Philippines which in turn makes Filipinos love their own. “There is no love without knowledge. What we did here helps Filipinos have true love for the country.”
Department of Tourism Chief of Operations Francisco Lardizabal, for his part, congratulated the university for successfully promoting Philippine tourism.
“We are fully supporting colleges and universities in their endeavors towards developing culture and tourism. The way I see it, there will be a bright future for the industry. I’m looking forward to working with all of you after you graduate,” he said.
The other activities that were held during the two-day celebration include tourism booth contest, tour guiding competition, tour packaging
