PH conjoined twins separated in Taiwan
DAGUPAN CITY, Pangasinan — The one- year- old conjoined twins from Bautista, Pangasinan, have been separated through a delicate surgery done by doctors in Taiwan last Friday, the twins’ father confirmed yesterday.
Speaking to the Manila Bulletin by phone, Jayson de Guzman said he got a call from his wife, Ludy, last Saturday saying their daughters Jennelyn and Jerrelyn, who are conjoined in the chest and stomach, have been separated successfully and recuperating in the intensive care unit (ICU) of a hospital in Taiwan.
“Umiiyak po siya na nagbalita sa akin sa labis na tuwa na ang aming anak ay naoperahan na at napaghiwalay na sila sa Taiwan nang isagawa ang kanilang operasyon nitong Marso 13 (She [Ludy] was crying as she told me the happy news of our twins successfully separated through the operation in Taiwan last March 13),” said Jayson.
Born on Dec. 8, 2013, the twins were one year and there months old when they underwent surgery after months of preparation.
“They may come out of the ICU in four days and then transferred to a private room at the Taiwan hospital,” he said in Filipino, adding that they are recovering well.
Earlier, Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) Chairman Amadeo Perez Jr. who visited the conjoined twins said he is optimistic the twins are in good hands.
“Tzu Chi Foundation is a big and well- financed foundation. They will finance the expenses of the twins including the lodging facility of their mother Ludy,” said Perez, referring to the foundation that is helping the De Guzman family.
