- ••• ‘Lord of Scent’ turns 50 •••

Hairdressing professionals, salon business experts, and esteemed makeup artists, along with theireir celebrity muses like Marian Rivera,, Gretchen Barretto, o, Iza Calzado and Tessa Prieto-Valdez,ez, gathered at the recent Hair Asia’s 25th National Open Championship hampionship for Hairstyling rstyling and Makeup held at the World Trade Center.

Hair Asia honored the pillars of hairstyling who have shaped the landscape of the Philippine hair industry into what it is today. They are James Cooper, Jesi Mendez, and Tony Galvez.

Beauty guru, hair expert and image consultant Tony Galvez personally accepted the recognition. Galvez, who owns the Tony Galvez School of Cosmetology, said: “I thank Hair Asia for this lifetime award and recognition in my profession in the Cosmetology industry. May God give me more power and strength to continue my passion and talent to inspire the young professionals and the new generations in the world of beauty.”

Tony Galvez advocates for the licensing of cosmetology practitioners in the country through the creation of Professional Regulatory and Licensing Board for Technical Vocational Professions.

Galvez is the President of the Technical and Vocational Schools of Quezon City, Vice President for Domestic Affairs and Public Relations for TEVSAPHIL (Technical Vocational Schools Association of the Philippines) and Chairman TEVSAPHIL National Advocacy Committee.

It was another memorable and most exciting event that the “Lord of Scent” Joel Cruz hosted recently. It marked his 50th birthday ( on Feb. 19), the blessing of his new palatial house ( which he build for his mother) along Amoranto Ave. in Quezon City, and also in celebration of the Chinese New Year.

The triple celebration, as in all of Joel’s parties that offered an abundance of good food and drinks, was well-attended by friends, associates, and the media. The emceeing job was ably handled by Johnny Litton and Kapuso star Pauleen Luna.

Among the special guests were Dra. Elenita Binay, former Makati mayor and wife of Vice President Jejomar Binay; and former Ilocos Sur Gov. Chavit Singson.

A musical concert highlighted the event. Beautiful songs were rendered by Sitti, Richard Poon, Dulce and Gary Valenciano. Another highlight was the raffling off of cash (in euros!) prizes. The evening was capped by the traditional Chinese Dragon Dance and fireworks display.
