Aquino receives UK’s Princess Anne
President Aquino received Princess Royal of the United Kingdom, Princess Anne, in Malacañang, yesterday.
The Princess Royal met with Aquino at the Music Room of Malacanang Palace Tuesday morning to discuss the projects of Save the Children in the Philippines, particularly those implemented in the aftermath of super-typhoon “Yolanda” in the Visayas.
As president of Save the Children, The Princess Royal will visit projects and beneficiaries supported by the organization and an elementary school in Leyte.
The Princess Royal is president of Save the Children for more than four decades and is an active advocate of children’s rights and protection.
In her visit to Malacanang, The Princess Royal was accompanied by British Ambassador to the Philippines Asif Anwar Ahmad; Captain Nick Wright, Private Secretary to The Princess Royal; and Mrs. David Bowes-Lyon, Lady-inWaiting.
President Aquino, for his part, was joined by Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert Del Rosario, Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, Social Welfare Undersecretary Mateo Montaño, and Foreign Affairs Assistant Secretary Maria Zenaida Collinson.
The Princess Royal is the second child and only daughter of Queen Elizabeth II.
Before receiving the title Princess Royal from her mother in June 1987, she was known as Princess Anne.
The Princess Royal is in the country for a visit from March 16 to 19, in connection with her charity and various humanitarian works. It is her second visit to the country since her first trip in March 1999.
