Storm nears, but weakens, may hit Aurora on Friday

The state weather bureau said that tropical storm “Bavi” will weaken into a low pressure area (LPA) ones it makes a landfall in Aurora province on Friday.

In a media briefing Philippine Atmospheri­c Geophysica­l and Astronomic­al Services Administra­tion (Pagasa) forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said as of 10 am yesterday Bavi was estimated at 1,530 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora with a maximum wind of 65 kph and gustiness of up to 80 kph.

However, Aurelio said that Bavi is moving west-northwest at 20 kph and is expected to weaken as it goes closer to the land.

It is forecast that Bavi may be 1,030 kilometers east northeast of Casiguran Aurora today, 640 kilometers east northeast of Casiguran by tomorrow and 270 kilometers east northeast of Casiguran by Friday morning.

It will be named “Betty” when it reaches the Philippine Area of Responsibi­lity (PAR)

In its weather forecast, Pagasa said that the whole archipelag­o will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thundersto­rms.

Winds will be moderate to strong from the northeast to east over Eastern Luzon and from the east to northeast over the eastern sections of the Visayas and Mindanao.

Coastal waters in these areas will be moderate to rough while other parts of the country will have winds that are light to moderate from the east to northeast with slight to moderate seas.
