Fr. Villarin said that the Ateneo going co- ed in SHS is “part of preparation for college.” The program will expand to take in 300 additional students coming from other schools throughout the country. Fr. Villarin added that “100 scholarship grants will be offered in the senior high school to academically gifted but financially challenged students.”

He didn’t say how this expansion may affect the SHS enrollment of a neighboring girls’ college which is named after a famous senator.

Jun Alvendia says if that were the case, that girl’s college can strike back and, like De La Salle, also open its doors to boys.

Finally, Fr. Villarin didn’t say if boys in the Ateneo SHS should worry about the girls taking the academic honors and scholarships.

Anyway, the boys can always try for scholarship under basketball and other varsity teams.

BTW, congratulations to the Ateneo senior men’s volleyball team for winning their first UAAP championship and to Marck Espejo for getting the MVP plum.

This was followed by the Lady Eagles bannered by super- star Alyssa Valdez repeating for a twopeat UAAP championship, ( this time with a clean slate 16- 0). The Green Archers Lady Spikers put on a gallant challenge despite playing without its injured team captain Ara Galang. The best thing for volleyball sport was the MOA Arena filling to the rafters during the face- off between the Lady Eagles vs. Lady Spikers.

LAST WORDS ON HIGH SCHOOL. Still the best years, sighs Sharon Cuneta:

High school life, oh my high school life Ev’ry memory, kay ganda High school days, oh my high school days Are exciting, kay saya

… High school love, my one high school love Not infatuation or crush Tunay ‘ to s’ya ang buhay ko Di n’yo lang alam ako’y nagbablush Bakit nga ba ang first love ko Ay di serious, so it seems Kung alam lang ng first love ko He is always in my dreams.
