Wounded NPA captured in ComVal encounter

DAVAO CITY – A wounded member of the New People’s Army (NPA) was captured by army troopers belonging to 25th IB in an encounter that took place on Monday in Barangay New Manay, Maragusan, Compostela Valley province.

In a statement sent to the members of the media here, 1Lt. Vergel Lacambra, chief of the Division Public Affairs Office of the 10th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army said that the army were conducting combat patrol in the area when they engaged around 30 fully armed NPAs in a 45-minute armed confrontat­ion.

After the skirmishes, the soldiers found an NPA rebel with a gunshot wound in the stomach who was abandoned by his comrades upon their retreat from the encounter site.

Lacambra said the wounded rebel was immediatel­y given first aid by the soldiers and with the support of the local officials in the area, was immediatel­y rushed to the regional hospital here for proper medication.

No one was hurt on the government side.

Recovered from the encounter site include one M16 rifle; four improvised landmines; a 500-meter electrical wire; eighteen backpacks; medical and dental parapherna­lia; thirteen pairs of rain boots; and assorted personal belongings. (Alexander D. Lopez)
