PSL to introduce ‘skorts,’ video challenge in All-Filipino tourney
Games Saturday (Mall of Asia Arena) 2:30 p.m. – Cignal vs Foton 4:30 p.m. – Philips vs Petron
Several innovations, including the wearing of “skorts”, will be introduced when the Philippine Superliga stages the All-Filipino Conference starting on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
PSL President Tats Suzara yesterday said the wearing of “skorts” uniform and application of the video challenge are just some of the innovations they hoped would make the league more appealing and exciting.
Suzara is also convinced that their partnership with television outfit TV5 will further boost the popularity of the league.
“With these new additions, we are hoping for a very exciting and competitive league,” said Suzara in a press briefing held at the Mall of Asia Arena lobby.
In some select games, players will be obliged to wear “skorts”, a combination skirt and shorts while a video challenge will be used during playoffs until the championship round.
The “skorts” was introduced by traditional power Brazil during last year’s World Club Championships.
Matches will also be televised live on TV5 and Aksyon TV after organizers inked a three-year partnership with the TV station.
“Initially, it’s for three years, but our intention is to go on a more comprehensive partnership in the conferences to come,” said Chot Reyes, head of TV5’s Sports and Digital5.
The league, now on its third year, will be parading with six women’s teams namely Petron, Cignal, Philips Gold, Foton, Shopinas, and Mane ‘N Tail.
Cignal and Foton clash at 2:30 p.m., followed by the tussle between 2014 Grand Prix champion Petron and Philips Gold at 4:30 p.m.
Petron has been tagged as the team to beat owing to its stronger lineup led by Aby Marano, Rachel Daquis, Mina Aganon, Fille Cainglet, Dindin Santiago, and Fil-American draftee Alexa Micek.
