Global eyes vital win vs Yadanarbon

Game Today (Mandalar Thiri Stadium, Myanmar) 5:30 p.m. – Yadanarbon vs Global

A rejuvenated Global FC tries to secure a breakthrough victory in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) when it battles host Yadanarbon in the resumption of Group G action today at the Mandalar Thiri Stadium in Mandalay, Myanmar.

After holding fancied Malaysian side Pahang to a scoreless draw in Kuantan last week, the reigning United Football League titleholders are itching to secure the full three points and catch up in the race for the top two slots against Yadanarbon in their match set at 4 p.m. local time (5:30 p.m. Philippine time).

Global, however, will be missing the services of top defender Amani Aguinaldo, who will serve a one-game ban for committing two yellow cards against Pahang.

Despite his absence, the club is more determined to boost its maiden foray in Asia’s second-tier club competition after being ambushed 6-1 at home by Hong Kong’s South China in the opener three weeks ago.

“We put ourselves in a chance to get back into the tournament,” Global Coach Leigh Manson said through its club website. “We have to take it one game at a time and that’s what we’ll do.”

One of the players who stood out against Pahang was seldom-used goalkeeper Jun- Jun Badelic, who earned a clean sheet by making key saves throughout the match. —
