TV host and comedy actor Joey de Leon believes rallying behind the cause of helping out celebrities in need is the way to go for the top three TV networks.

he said in a group interview.

The comment was prompted when conversation gravitated towards comedy actress Joy Viado, who reportedly needs to undergo a third debridement surgery on her lower right leg. Joy has diabetes and the injury is a complication of her condition. Fundraisers are being mounted by Joy’s friends to pitch in for her mounting medical expenses.

“Pararatingin namin ni Jose

(Manalo, ‘Eat Bulaga’ mainstay) sa Puregold (’yan) kasi nag-sponsor naman sila ng mga fundraising,” added Joey, who is one of Puregold’s original endorsers.

Asked about his humble beginnings, Joey talked about remaining grounded amid success in a business where it’s easy to lose it all if one isn’t prudent.

Later, he reiterated the need for unity in the entertainment industry.

Welcome, Willie

By this time, the show “Wowowin” had already premiered on GMA-7 and Joey is nothing but happy for its host, Willie Revillame. A few years back, Willie had a show on another network in the same timeslot as Joey’s “Eat Bulaga.” They have had issues but all is water under the bridge now.

“Welcome to Kapuso.

Welcome and good luck to you,” Joey said with a smile.

Is he willing to appear as guest on “Wowowin?” It’s unlikely, Joey said, since Sunday is his rest day. But, yes, Joey has no qualms promoting the show or putting in a good word for it.

“Sana magtagal na si Willie. ’Di na din siya bumabata. Pero nasa sa kanya yan. Lahat naman ng ginagawa ni Willie ay his own doing.”

‘Basher is short for basura’

When questions were raised regarding social media, Joey said he thinks it’s a double-edged sword.

“Minsan, maganda magpakalat ng

impormasyon (sa social media pero) ganu’n din, (minsan) parang lason na pumasok sa ugat mo – madaling kumalat ang mikrobyo (through it),” he said.

He sees bashers as people who have nothing better to do or contribute to topics they dip their fingers into. Many times he ignores them, but he sometimes responds to their attacks – which Joey refers to as “the usual intriga” – in order to air his side. In general, though, he doesn’t engage in argument with them whom, he

points out, don’t even put their real names when they post comments.

“Basher nga is short for basura.” He added that it’s not the end of the world when a post becomes controversial.
