Rice productivity

ILOILO CITY (PIA) – Iloilo is among the three provinces which have been chosen as project areas for the implementation of Better Rice Initiatives Asia-Fostering Agriculture and Rice Marketing by Improved Education and Rural Advisory Services (BRIA-FARMERS) in the Philippines, the Department of Agriculture (DA) said. The other provinces are Aurora and Southern Leyte. DA chief advisor Mathias Radek said the project aims to support the small holder rice farmers in increasing their income by optimizing their production techniques, marketing access and the strengthening of the whole rice value chain. The municipalities of Leganes, Mina, Oton, Pototan, Sta. Barbara and Zarraga will be involved in the project. Radek said the municipalities were chosen for having majority of their agricultural areas planted with rice.
