Solon files bill to create more courts in GenSan
A Mindanao lawmaker has filed a bill, seeking to create four additional municipal trial courts in General Santos City.
House Bill (HB) 5530, authored by South Cotabato Rep. Pedro Acharon Jr., seeks to amend Batas Pambansa (BP) Blg. 129, otherwise known as the Judiciary Reorganization Act of 1980.
“With the continuous deluge of cases contributing further to the already existing backlog, the level of disposition and resolution of court cases in General Santos City remains low, in effect the administration of justice is compromised,” Acharon said.
In filing the bill, the solon cited Section 16 of Article II of the Bill of Rights which says that all persons shall have the right to a speedy disposition of their cases before all judicial quasi-judicial or administrative bodies.
“The court could better serve the best interests of the public and respond accordingly to the growing demand for the immediate resolution of cases presently clogging the dockets in the existing Municipal Trial Courts in the City of General Santos,” said Acharon, who chairs the House Committee on Local Government.
