Gun-toting Sri Lankan goes berserk in Butuan

BUTUAN CITY – A 40-year-old Sri Lankan national was arrested after he allegedly went wild and fired a gun Thursday night at Purok 6, Barangay De Oro, Butuan City, police reported yesterday.

Supt. Martin, M. Gamba, spokesman of Police Regional Office 13 (PRO 13), identified the arrested Sri Lankan as Fernando Dominic Arachige Jude Srinath who is temporaril­y residing at Puro 5, Barangay Holy Redeemer here.

Initial investigat­ion conducted by the Metro Butuan City Police Office (BCPO) showed that the suspect was allegedly under the influence of liquor when he fired his gun that sent the residents of Barangay De Oro into panic.

After firing his gun at around 9:30 p.m., he put the gun under his vehicle accelerato­r when he noticed the presence of the responding police officers, Gamba said.

A resident in the area took the opportunit­y to retrieve the gun and turn it over to the responding police officers.
