Amarketing student from Manila who wants to promote eco-tourism was crowned Miss Philippines Earth 2015 Sunday night at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Newly crowned Miss Philippines Earth 2015 Angelia Gabrena Ong said that she wants to give local eco-tourism a boost in order to save the planet and create jobs and revenue for the people.
“My advocacy is restoration, reforestation, and minimizing carbon footprints through eco-tourism. Educating the people on how we can minimize carbon footprints in our own simple ways and how we can consistently maintain reforestation and restoration projects would definitely get a long way,” said Ong, 24, student of De La Salle-College of St. Benilde.
Ong will later represent the country in the Miss Earth beauty pageant. The reigning Miss Earth is Jamie Herrell of the Philippines.
Runners-up include Chanel Olive Thomas of San Antonio, Nueva Ecija who was named Miss Philippines Air, Catherine Joy Marin of Bago City, Miss Philippines Water, Carla Angela Valderrama of Siniloan, Laguna, Miss Philippines Fire and Joana Sweett, Iloilo City, Miss Philippines Eco-Tourism.
Ong was also named Darling of the Press, Miss Hana and Miss Placenta, which was presented by CEO and President of Psalmstre Jaime Acosta.
“I feel that there are so many things to do to save our planet. The crown, aside from all the prestige that comes with it, will empower me to empower others to get up and so something about dying planet,’’ Ong said.
Thomas was named Miss Friendship and Best in Swimsuit; Sweett, Best in Evening Gown; Alyanna Mikaela Cagandahan of Sta. Cruz, Laguna, Miss Photogenic; Marin, Miss SM Markets and Paris Adele Silva, of Lipa City, Batangas, Best in Cultural Attire.
This year’s judges were actress and Tacloban City councilor Cristina “KringKring” Gonzalez-Romualdez, glass sculptor Micheal Cacnio, First Lady of the Italian Embassy Agnes Ventura Rosinio, Division Manager, Diamond Hotel Manila Jorge Reynoso III, SVP of SM Markets Arnold Daluz, singer Zsa-Zsa Padilla, Carousel Productions’ Lorraine Schuck, VP for Marketing, Peerless Manufacturing Corporation (Hana Shampoo) Jasper Tiu and German Ambassador to the Philippines Thomas Ossowski.
