Cebu town inaugurates first college building
SAN REMEGIO, Cebu – This town’s college students, who used to hold classes in a makeshift room for two years, finally got their own school building funded by the Cebu provincial government.
Governor Hilario P. Davide III and San Remegio municipal Mayor Mariano Martinez inaugurated the Cebu Technological University (CTU) building, which was constructed using the provincial government’s money.
Davide said he admired the initiative of Martinez and the town officials in bringing the college to the town and for looking after the future of the town’s children.
CTU officials headed by Dr. Ledesma Layon, vice president for administration, also attended the inauguration and blessing of the new campus.
The campus is an extension of the CTU Daanbantayan branch. Located in Barangay Tambongon, the campus stands on a one-hectare property donated by the municipal government.
The municipal government also provided two school buses and plans to offer scholarships to deserving students.
“This CTU (campus) is located at the center of the town. The students who cannot afford to go to college will have no reason not to go to school because the campus is very near,” Martinez said.
Currently, CTU students in San Remigio are studying in schools in the nearby town of Daanbantayan.
The new school’s population is made up of 26 third year college students, 60 second year college students, and 180 incoming freshmen students.
The satellite campus offers elementary and secondary education courses as well as Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology major in Electronics.
Previously, CTU held classes in a room located at the back of the town’s sports complex while graduate students held classes at the municipal hall, the Capitol said.
