Pintados-Kasadyaan Festivals back in Tacloban

TACLOBAN CITY – The famous Pintados-Kasadyaan Festival of Festivals is finally back with its best performanc­es and street dancing today around the major streets of this city eight years after they were banned by the city government of Tacloban.

Pintados-Kasadyaan Executive Chair and Palo, Leyte Mayor Remedios “Matin” Petilla said it was a victory for all that they were finally given a special permit on June 11,2015 by the city government of Tacloban to resume their best performanc­e on the major streets of Tacloban City.

Petilla explained that they are now holding the 29th year of Pintados and 20th year of Kasadyaan Festival of Festivals aimed at showing the ethnic and best cultural dances of Region 8.

She identified the seven contingent­s joining this year’s festival as the famous Buyogan Festival of Abuyog,Leyte; the hallof-famer Lingganay Festival of Alangalang,Leyte; Tulo-usa Festival of Tolosa, Leyte; Mayaw-mayaw Festival of PInabacdao,Samar; Tribu Motiongano­n of Motiong,Samar led by Mayor Francisco M. Langi Sr.; and the Mandaragat Festival of Catbalonga­n,Samar.

Petilla explained that no cultural groups coming from outside Region 8 will perform this year as special permit was only granted last June 11, three months after it was applied for.

She announced that prizes have been increased: for the first prize; for the second prize and for the third prize.

Energy Secretary Carlos Jericho L.Petilla hailed the resumption of the Pintados-Kasadyaan Festival of Festivals; he had been supportive of the activity when he was still the chief executive of Leyte.

The famous Pintados-Kasadyaan Festival of Festivals was organized by concerned Tacloban City residents in June 1986 after the People’s Power revolution to provide merriment and cultural activities during the fiesta of Tacloban City in honor of Sto.Nino de Leyte which is celebrated on June 30.

It was banned by the city government of Tacloban for eight years during which the city revived its own Sangyaw Festival
