Widus Hotel and Casino welcomes new GM
Widus International Leisure, Inc. announces the appointment of Jonathan Nowell as the new general manager of Widus Hotel and Casino in Clark, Pampanga.
Nowell, a 59 year-old British national, is a veteran international hotelier. He boasts 40 years of experience in the hospitality sector, gained from managing properties across the business spectrum throughout the world.
Nowell’s well-rounded career is distinguished by a strong focus on business development, sales and marketing, food and beverage, and general management. His travels have taken him to 15 countries and territories on five continents, in places as diverse as the United Kingdom, Egypt, Vietnam, Micronesia, the Dominican Republic and the United States.
Prior to joining Widus, Nowell was vice president at Ikon Hospitality Management Company in Yangon, Myanmar where he oversaw its thrust into opening the country’s budding hotel market. He also had significant stints with international chains Hyatt Hotels and Hilton Worldwide, where he honed his craft.
As Widus general manager, Nowell will oversee the hotel’s $100-million expansion, which includes the impending construction of a third tower that will more than double current room capacity.
He is also in charge of the daily operations and overall performance of Widus Hotel, the only deluxe property in the Clark Freeport Zone and part of an integrated leisure complex that includes a 50-table casino and a 700-sqm convention center.
“Clark is a very unique economic zone, which makes it the ideal destination for corporate and leisure visitors. With Clark’s development growing apace, the prospects for Widus are equally robust. I look forward to sharing my experience and knowledge in hospitality to help the Widus team achieve its full potential,” Nowell said.
Nowell now heads a 700-strong team of professionals at Widus and takes the helm as the property marks its seventh year this July as the premier one-stop leisure destination in Clark.
