He is a husband, a father, traveller, blogger, writer, and an executive with a degree in economics. Clement Dampal II, however, proves photography is his most palpable passion.

Based in Cagayan de Oro City, the self-taught photographer first made the most of his voluminous rendezvous as he documents his trips around the country through his blog (ownwww.bestspotsph.com).

Thereafter, photography piqued Clement’s enthusiasm further as he learned how to muster visual elements that relate beauty and emotion. “Photography, apart from giving me yet something more to do and learn about, has given me that fulfilling sense of purpose—telling stories that goes along with every perfect moment.”

Clement opts for a wellrounded take on specialization and execution as he tackled his learning curve. “Personally, I preferred to specialize on photography as a whole so as not to get confused with its many fields of expertise. Being a self-taught photographer, I wish to attempt to be competent in all genres of photography. Therefore, from travel and street photography, I also tried sports and macro photography among other niches. But, as far as diversity and specialization are concerned, I’m currently into fashion editorials, portraiture, weddings as well as bird photography,” Clement explains.

His creative formation, he believes is built around the elements of information, education, and expression. Clement also subscribes to Ernst Haas’ wisdom: “The camera doesn’t make a bit of a difference; all of these can record what you are seeing, but, you have to see.” Therefore, Clement points out, it always pays to challenge and satisfy one’s creative fulfilment.

Moreover, photography is an artistic and technical art, Clement says since it is able to capture and encapsulate the subject by means of the subconscious. “Photography is more than a documentation, it is a form of transformation in which each picture contains something worthwhile to speak for itself. It captures a moment in time so well that would otherwise never exist again,” he adds.

Clement also finds time to participate in a handful of photography organizations so as to inspire others. “Photography has turned out to be a major part of my life. The first thing that I perceived it to be years ago was a hobby. The interest then turned out as my top priority.”

Currently, Clement tackles fashion editorials, portraiture, and monochrome as he seeks photography on a much deeper level. “By doing so, it helps me realize photography as a delicate art form where details are of utmost importance. I am learning and experimenting on a variety of methods and styles that will greatly develop my compositions.”

Photography, apart from giving me yet something more to do and learn about, has given me that fulfilling sense of purpose— telling stories that goes along with every perfect moment.
