Fire hits UST bldg.

Fire broke out at the St. Raymund de Peñafort building inside the University of Santo Tomas (UST) campus in Sampaloc, Manila Sunday night, prompting school authoritie­s to suspend classes in the affected colleges yesterday.

The blaze originated at the fourth floor fourth floor at around 9:12 p.m. It was placed under control by responding government and volunteer firefighte­rs half an hour later.

The building houses the Colleges of Commerce and AB.

UST's Office of the Secretary-General announced classes in the said building is suspended to ensure the safety of students and allow arson investigat­ors to conduct a thorough probe.

School authoritie­s, however, did not suspend office work in the building.

No fatalities or injuries were reported.
