Mandaluyong breaks Guinness Zumba record
The Philippines has a new Guinness record for having the largest Zumba class in a single location in Mandaluyong City, yesterday.
Known as the “Tiger City,” Mandaluyong recorded 12,975 participants to beat Cebu’s record in the Guinness World Records.
All participants, who woke up at 3 a.m. to register for the event, began their dance exercise on Martinez Street wearing yellow shirts at 7 a.m.
The record-breaking event, which was dubbed “Kayang-kayang Magsayaw,” was spearheaded by Councilor Charisse Marie Abalos and Mayor Benhur Abalos.
During the official counting of participants Councilor Abalos posted on her Facebook page: “Wow! Counting still ongoing sa ating Guinness World Record attempt as the largest class in a single location. Maraming salamat po sa lahat ng sumuporta at nakilahok. This is already part of history.”
Allan Piscley of the Guinness World Records presented the certificate before all participants and organizers.
The record-breaking event was also a gift for Mayor Abalos, who was celebrating his birthday, said Councilor Abalos.
Cebu recorded 8,232 participants on the same event on Oct. 18, 2014.
Meanwhile, a total of 579 marshals including 89 policemen were deployed to maintain the safety of the participants and peace and order during the successful event.
