Tell us if you have big events, MMDA tells mall operators

- By ANNA LIZA VILLAS-ALAVAREN

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has renewed its call for mall operators, particularly those located along EDSA, to alert the agency before holding shopping sale promos because of the horrible traffic they cause to motorists and commuters.

Crisanto Saruca, MMDA traffic discipline office head, said motorists have again encountered heavy traffic along EDSA during the weekend on areas surrounding the malls in commercial districts: North EDSA, Ortigas and Mandaluyong areas.

"We are encouraging the mall owners to coordinate with the agency whenever they have special events that will draw huge number of people like sale promos and concerts," said Saruca, over the agency's radio program.

Giving a heads up to the agency can enable them to prepare and make contingencies as volume of vehicles around malls adversely contribute to traffic situation all over the metropolis, Saruca said.
