Cops slay ex-soldier wanted for crimes

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan — A retired soldier, listed as one of the most wanted persons in this province, was killed in a shootout with police in Barangay Curva, Pamplona town, last Saturday. Police said Fernando Olivar, 58, a former member of the Philippine Army who became wanted for robbery and frustrated murder, succumbed to a bullet wound in the chest after engaging police serving a warrant for his arrest in a gunfight. Probers collected from the scene the M-16 rifle Olivar used against the warrant officers. (Freddie G. Lazaro)
