SAN JOSE, Antique — Around 1,000 residents will be employed by the projects that San Miguel Corporation (SMC) is putting up in Brgy. Idiacacan, Pandan town, according to Mayor Jonathan Tan who has expressed full support for the company’s plans for his municipality.

“All things considered, the employment of this number of people will surely be the best ever that could happen to Antique and we shall not let this opportunity pass just because of petty reasons including politics,” Mayor Tan stressed in an interview.

Tan said SMC was pouring billion worth of investments in the three plants that the company is set to put up in the next few weeks in Pandan. These are an Aviation Gas Storage and Depot, a bottling storage for SMC beverage and drinks and a dressing plant for chicken and meat products.

SMC has already put up a gasoline station and terminal for buses and jeepneys in the area.

“We have an agreement with SMC that the Antiqueños, especially Pandananons will be prioritized in the hiring of skilled as well as unskilled labor needed in these plants. We have the assurance that our people will have good and stable jobs. SMC is known for its high salary standard that I look forward to the day that everybody in Pandan will be capable of providing his or her own needs,” Mayor Tan said.
