Boholanos assured: No fake rice

-

TAGBILARAN CITY — “There is no fake rice in Bohol.” This was the categorical statement issued by National Food Authority (NFABohol) manager Peng Evasco, who clarified during an interview that the reported proliferation of fake rice in Davao City was an isolated incident, and should not cause alarm among Boholanos. “The reported fake rice in Davao City was actually a contaminated rice caused by mishandling,” Evasco told the Manila Bulletin. She said the confirmation has been backed by findings released by the Food Development Center which was studying the alleged fake rice case. Despite the findings, Evasco said, NFA remains vigilant that all grains sold in Bohol markets are safe. “As ordered by our NFA administrator, we remain vigilant and we will continue to monitor that no fake rice would be sold in Bohol,” Evasco said. The NFA-Bohol manager said she has received full assurance from giant rice dealers and retailers in Bohol, including the major stores here, that they would only sell genuine rice to the Boholano consumers.
