Abu Sayyaf leader killed in Sulu clash

ZAMBOANGA CITY — Government forces killed an Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) sub-commander during intelligen­ce operations in Barangay Poblacion, Indanan, Sulu Wednesday afternoon.

The military identified the slain ASG sub – leader as Mahmur Jupuri, alias “Mahmur,” who was facing charges of kidnapping and murder

Joint Task Group Sulu commander Col. Alan Arrojado said the encounter took place about 4: 30 p.m last Wednesday at Barangay Poblacion, Indanan, Sulu.

“Recovered after the encounter was one caliber.45 pistol, a magazine and ammos,” Arrojado said.

The body of the slain ASG leader was recovered and taken to the Kutang Heneral Teodulfo Bautista Station Hospital (KHTBSH) at Barangay Busbus, Jolo, Sulu for autopsy at 5 p.m.

The report said there were no military troops that were wounded during the encounter

The military report also said that Jupuri was involved in the kid- napping of a Malaysian couple in Sandakan, Malaysia last May 14.

His body was claimed by his family from the military hospital in Jolo Wednesday night.

“At around 9:25 p.m. a certain Bario Darhamil Sali Ladja alias “Damlag” of Barangay Tumantangi­s, Indanan, Sulu and Jupuri’s wife Jurmina claimed the cadaver of Jupuri at KHTBSH (Kutang Heneral Teodulfo Bautista Station Hospital),” Arrojado said.

Investigat­ion also revealed that Jurmina is the daughter of ASG sub-leader Amama, the leader of Parang-Indanan based ASGs.
