Slain tricycle driver’s kin to bring case before CHR

- By JENNY F. MANONGDO

The family of the tricycle driver slain in an alleged rubout involving Manila police officers said they will elevate the case before the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) as soon as their kin has been laid to rest.

Ericson Villarosa, brother of tricycle driver Robin Villarosa, who was shot dead following a robbery incident in Sosiego Street in Sampaloc district last week, said the investigation being conducted by the Manila Police District (MPD) is 'too slow'.

“It's not that we are not satisfied. Nakukulangan lang talaga (We just feel it is inadequate),” the victim’s brother lamented.

Villarosa also surmised that his brother was framed by policemen and that the whole robbery incident was planned by the police.

The five police officers who are facing murder charges maintained they were only carrying out their duties even as a closed circuit television (CCTV) camera footage showed a police officer shooting Robin at close range while the latter had his arms raised in surrender.

“These things have come to my mind this is why I also want the man who allegedly took the barangay kagawad's pouch to surface to shed light on the matter. I don't understand why the police is so angry at my brother,” Villarosa said.

“Did the police plan the whole thing to get promotion or fame? They even planted the gun so it would look like it was in my brother's possession. They think they could get away with it. They failed to consider the presence of the CCTV unit in the area,” he added.

The five police officers are currently under restrictive custody at the District Holding Services Unit (DHSU) of the MPD headquarters.

Atty. Dennis Wagas, chief of the MPD legal services department said the case has already been filed in court and that the Villarosa family could seek the services of the CHR.
