- By EDITH B. COLMO

BACOLOD CITY — This city has a new facility, the Chauncey Career Development and Training Center, which will cater to the less privileged youths and adults, including the drop out and unemployed graduates.

Built under the auspices of the Tobosonian United Foundation, the center opened over the weekend at Bangga Yap in Brgy. Tangub, Bacolod City.

According to Myrna Johns, founder/vice president of the center, initial courses offered are call/contact center agent, food and beverages, and housekeeping. Each course will last only 1 1/2 months. Soon they will offer caregiver and book keeping courses as well.

The center is now processing its accreditation with the TESDA Technical Education and Skills Development Authority for all the courses it offers.

The training center has complete facilities: Computer room with complete amenities, hotel rooms for house keeping, and a restaurant for the food and beverages courses.

Myrna said they have decided to open the training center because a big number of children are not able to get higher education due to financial difficulty.

The center will also try to facilitate job placement of their graduates so that they can help their families.

Brian Johns, husband of Myrna is a member of the board. The Johns said that as permanent residents of the United States, they have been into community and social development work especially for the senior citizens and the disabled. They are confident that they can do much more in the Philippines, particularly in Negros Occidental which in the hometown of Myrna.

They mobilize funds through personal contributions of the members of the Tobosonian foundation and the officers of the training center.
