MTRCB to relaunch infotainment ‘Uncut’
The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) will launch the second season of their infotainment program “Uncut” on Aug. 16.
“Uncut” aims to inform audiences of various television and film rating systems and how to make use of it. The one-hour show will be broadcast via Eagle Broadcasting Corporation’s (EBC) Net25 Sundays, 7 to 8 p.m.
“It is part and parcel of our Matalinong Panunuod campaign whereby we discuss and bring to our people the dynamics of film and television rating system and in that regard we seek to empower our audiences in so far as their knowledge and use of our system. Also as a way of communicating to our valued stakeholders what we call audience-sensitive entertainment as well as age-appropriate media,” MTRCB Chairperson Eugenio “Toto” Villareal told Bulletin Entertainment during the contract signing between MTRCB and EBC a few days ago.
MTRCB hopes audiences will be more knowledgeable and responsible in watching programs, as well as for the stakeholders to be sensitive of their audiences and be responsible in airing shows and films.
“This is for them to understand it better. For example, they should understand what makes an SPG, R-16, etcetera. We want to empower the family members, especially the parents and other responsible adults,” Villareal added.
“Uncut” will have various segments, including panel discussion “Prangkahan,” man-on-the –street portion “Kita Keats,” and a Q&A portion with Villareal titled “I-share Mo Kay Chair.”
“We will have portions explaining whether public affairs program are part of MTRCB’s jurisdiction. We are also going to have features on the sensitivity with respect to children, women and persons
with disabilities in media. All of these are very important points in media which affect the ratings. We would also want to have the show as a conduit with respect to our audience,” he said.
MTRCB is also inviting different personalities from different networks and film outfits. Among those who previously guested were Judy Ann Santos, Dingdong Dantes, Daniel Padilla and Julius and Tin Babao.
“Regardless of what your network or film company is, we will invite various personalities to share their experiences also and their two-cents on the ratings,” he said.
Board members Bobby Andrews, Jackie Aquino, Gladys Reyes, Peter Musngi and Atty. Toto Villareal host the various segments.
“Iba’t ibang paksa, iba’t-ibang personalidad ang ipagsasama po namin, pero iisa ang layunin, ang makapagbigay ng isang makabuluhang programa para sa ating mga manunuod,” Gladys said.
With their mission to protect the welfare of the audiences, MTRCB previously summoned the executives of ABS-CBN’s “Pinoy Big Brother 737” over numerous feedback and complaints they have been getting from the viewers. Villareal said that they conducted a mini-workshop for their writers and business unit heads. They noticed a change in the program, especially when the program highlighted family values and involved the parents of the contestants.
“We also monitor the program and we noticed that the program has portions there which highlight family values. We noticed that the parents became involved too. There were also some modifications. They will continue to have the SPG if in the exercise of self-regulation they believe that there’s a sensitive material. A focal person was appointed, Mr. Raymond Dizon, with whom we will have direct contact and he with us in respect to all matters relating childsensitivity and other matters related to the program,” Villareal said.
