- By MONCH MIKKO E. MISAGAL

Jobseekers went a step closer to their dream careers and a better future as they trooped to various booths that eagerly awaited applicants on the first of the two-day Manila Bulletin (MB) Classifieds Job Fair 2015 at the TriNoMa Activity Center in Quezon City yesterday.

This is the third time that Eduardo Bilon, 46, an electronics and communications engineering graduate of Camarin, Caloocan city took part in the

Manila Bulletin job fair and is not giving up despite his age.

“I am trying to target telecom companies or perhaps overseas employment if there is an opening. I am still hoping to get employed. But when I reach the age of 50, I’ll stop,” Bilon said.

Bilon used to work as a technician, purchasing staff, and warehouse worker in Saudi Arabia.

“The Manila Bulletin online job portal sends me emails. I am a subscriber,” Bilon explains the ease in registering for the job fairs that Manila Bulletin is holding. This is the 10th job fair in 2015.

Fresh start

Fresh graduate Roda Jane Oliva hopped from one booth to the other hoping to find a suitable job along with her friends who were likewise searching.

“This is an opportunity for me to look for a job. It’s been months since I graduated from college. I underwent trainings but I didn’t pursue them because I was not happy. I want office work, hopefully in the field of marketing,” Oliva added. She hopes to have her own business soon.

Right people

Maersk Global Service Centres Recruitment Associate Jaynelo Ofilas said that joining job fairs help them find the right people.

“We have a lot of job openings since the company is diverse, from finance and accounting-related positions, to information technology, to technical-related ones,” he said. “We believe in Manila Bulletin’s capability. Talagang meron siyang reach dun sa mga (It really can reach out to ) potential candidates natin and potential applicants who can supply ‘yung needs ng company in terms of human resources.”

Ofilas said that Maersk Global Service Centres, the event’s Platinum Partner, is opening its doors to fresh graduates and experienced candidates alike, as long as they have the educational background that match the position they are applying for.

Meanwhile, Gold Partner and firsttime client Alta Resources (Philippines) Corporation is looking for seasonal customer service representatives (CSRs).

“We would be handling more for healthcare and customer service. So these will be more on by bulk, meaning, by the hundreds… Our target market would be more on the [jobseekers] from Quezon City (QC) to the Pasig area,” Recruitment Specialist Carl Gerard Cruz said.

Cruz said a CSR representative is expected to perform well and must meet a fixed quota in three months.

“[Applicants] should have good English communication skills, meaning, they must not only be able to speak in English well, but also be able to maintain a conversation in English,” he added. “A candidate should be open to work in graveyard shifts, and in any shift in general.”

Cruz said that the Manila Bulletin job fair leg can provide a larger pool of candidates, as it attracts a large number of jobseekers.

The Bureau of Internal Revenue’s Revenue Region 7 - QC is also looking for new lawyers, revenue officers, engineers, and data entry machine operators for the agency, among others.

Quezon city Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Project Monitoring Officer Ernan Selga said Manila Bulletin job fairs have given jobs to residents especially in the business process outsourcing industry.
