LFS warns K to 12 will open Pinoy workers to exploitation

- By CHITO A. CHAVEZ

The League of Filipino Students (LFS) said the K to 12 scheme promoted by the Aquino administration will rob the Filipinos of their language, strip away their history and transform them into exploited workers for the global market to gobble up.

According to LFS national spokesperson Charisse Banes, the K to 12 education ladder will remove the subjects of Filipino, Literature and Philippine Government and Constitution from the college curriculum and will also delete Philippine History from high school.

To dramatize the group’s opposition to K to 12 and observe the Month of National Language and History, students and LFS members walked out of their classes on Tuesday to demand the immediate scrapping of the program.

In an activity dubbed “Pistang Protesta,” LFS members marched to the Mendiola Peace Arch together with the Students, Parents and Teachers Against K to 12 (Stop K to 12) and Alyansa ng mga Tagapagtanggol ng Wikang Filipino (Tanggol Wika) and reiterated their call for the junking of the new educational scheme.

The participants assembled early in the morning at the University of the Philippines (UP), Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), University of Santo Thomas (UST), Far Eastern University (FEU), University of the East (UE), Philippine Normal University (PNU) and De la Salle University (DLSU) and proceeded to staging areas before proceeding to the Mendiola Peace Arch.

Students from the Pamantasan Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM), Pamantasan Lungsod ng Marikina (PLMAR) and Pamantasan Lungsod ng Pasig (PLP) also joined the protest.

“There is no better way to commemorate our buwan ng wikang pambansa at kasaysayan, but to show Aquino that we will never allow the anti-nationalist K to 12 program to continue,” Bañez stressed.

“K to 12 removes subjects that are essential foundations for national development. This new educational program is stripping us of our character as Filipinos. It should be stopped at all costs,” she said.
