DAGUPAN CITY, Pangasinan – Thousands of University students here welcomed Sen. Grace Poe during her recent visit in vote-rich Pangasinan where she espoused proyouth initiatives and programs.

Poe’s late father, actor Fernando Poe Jr., considers San Carlos City in Pangasinan as his hometown.

A potential 2016 presidential candidate, Poe described the Filipino youth as genuine assets for national development.

She stressed that the government must invest more in their education and employment to produce an empowered generation that will propel the country to progress.

Speaking to students of Lyceum Northwestern University and University of Luzon in Dagupan City, Poe said the youth sector is now equipped with modern technology and plays a crucial role in bringing about socio-economic and political changes.

Poe reiterated the need to provide the youth with affordable and quality education and opportunities for employment to enable them to help transform the country into an economic powerhouse.

The potential 2016 presidential candidate said she will also push for a comprehensive “Study Now Pay Later” program to help indigent but qualified poor students earn a college degree.

Slow Internet The senator likewise assailed the inferior and slow Internet connection services in the country, which she said affects many college students in terms of communication and other opportunities.

“Slow internet causes frustration among students because it’s a chance for them to do their homework, get information and voice out their opinions on what needs to be done by the government,” she said.

She stressed that high-speed Internet connections should not be considered a mere value-added service.
