Dutertes continue to dominate Davao politics, survey says

DAVAO CITY — The Dutertes remain to be the force to contend with in the fields of politics and governance.

In a survey conducted by the Institute of Popular Opinion (IPO) of the University of Mindanao (UM) from July 11 to 18, it was revealed that the Dutertes still dominate Davao City’s political scene.

IPOs latest survey was systematic­ally conducted in three congressio­nal districts here that involved respondent­s with ages 18-29 (44%); 30-35 (22%); 36-49 (20%); with the remaining percentage representi­ng respondent­s with ages 50 and above, of which, 53% were female while 47% were male.

Asked for their choice for president, 80% of the respondent­s said they would vote for Mayor Rodrigo Duterte if he decides to run for president; 11% said they would prefer Vice President Jejomar Binay; 6% would vote for Senator Grace Poe; 2% for Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada; and 1 percent for Secretary Mar Roxas.

Duterte’s number is 14.2 percent higher compared to the previous IPO survey conducted in October last year where the mayor got 65.8 percent; Binay also got 3.3% increase compared to previous survey; Poe with 1%; and Estrada in -4.9 decrease in number.

The survey also said that Duterte was most popular among the voters here with ages raging from 50-56 (88%) and 36-49% (85%).
