POEA launches direct hiring service for Taiwan jobs

- By SAMUEL P. MEDENILLA

Filipinos can now seek employment in Taiwan without paying excessive fees after the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) launched its Special Hiring Program for Taiwan (SHPT).

Under the government-to-government agreement, POEA will facilitate the processing of overseas Filipino workers (OFW), who will apply in the manufacturing, construction, fishery or domestic service, and care giving sector in Taiwan.

It was part of the agreement signed by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) with its Taiwanese counterpart last Aug. 3.

“This form of direct hiring will serve as an alternative to agency hiring and brokers without (the applicants) paying any fees since POEA will handle it,” Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said.

Qualified domestic work applicants must be at least 23 years old and 21 years old for those applying for other vacancies.

They should likewise have prior work experience.

POEA said interested parties may log-on on to http://www.epoeaservices. poea.gov.ph/ereg/ereg.asp with Taiwan as the chosen destination and accomplish the online form.

Should they be selected by a potential Taiwanese employer, they will be required to pay about R30, 000 for the use of POEA’s International Direct Erecruitment System (IDES).

This is considerably cheaper compared to the R90, 000 to R160,000 some erring recruitment agencies charges OFWs headed to Taiwan.
