LTFRB sets hearing on taxi fares
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) will conduct hearings on petitions for an increase and decrease in taxi fares on September 21.
Negros Oriental Rep. Manuel M. Iway, a former LTFRB board member, filed two petitions last month which sought to reduce jeepney and taxi fare rates, while the Philippine National Taxi Operators Association (PNTOA) filed a petition on August 6, 2015 for a taxi fare increase.
The board has set the hearing that day at 9 a.m. at the LTFRB head office in Quezon City.
Iway asked the board to reduce from R3.50 to R2.50 taxi fare for every 300 meters for taxi services and airport taxi services nationwide.
The PNTOA petition, meanwhile, which was filed by its vice president, Leo Carlo P. San Juan, sought for a R1.50 hike in waiting time charges from R3.50 to R5 every two minutes.
“In order for us to thoroughly study the petition of our lawmaker and PNTOA, the LTFRB is calling for a public hearing in order to listen to their views and in order for us to be fair in our decision,” LTFRB Chairman Atty. Winston Ginez said.
