BUTUAN CITY – A series of earthquakes, the strongest recorded with a magnitude of 4.1, rattled residents in Tandag City (Surigao del Sur), yesterday morning, particularly villagers living along the coastlines.

However, the regional action and monitoring center of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council based here said no casualty or damage caused by the series of quakes was reported.

According to Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) bulletin, a 4.1 magnitude earthquake jolted Tandag City and neighboring areas of Surigao del Sur this morning.

The tremor was recorded at 4:06 a.m. and its epicenter was traced 66 kilometers (kms) northeast of Tandag City (Surigao del Sur), with a depth of seven kms., Phivolcs said.

After 30 minutes, a 4.0-magnitude tremor was registered and its epicenter traced 79 kms northeast of Tandag City of that same province, with a depth of 33 kms.

At 5:06 a.m. of the same day, another 4.1 magnitude earthquake was registered, with its epicenter traced 43 km northeast of Tandag City of that same province, with a depth of 8 km.

Before mid-night on Sunday, a 4.0 magnitude earthquake also jolted Tandag City, Phivolcs said.

The series of tremors in Tandag City was caused by series of movements along a local fault in Surigao del Sur, it said. All these tremors were tectonic in origin.
