Aesthetic medicine: Beauty is more than skin deep
THE Philippine Academy of Aesthetic and Age Management Medicine, Inc. (PAAAMMI) holds its Third Annual convention on September 1-2, 2015, at the Manila Hotel, with the theme “AntiAging Medicine Essentials: From Fundamentals to the Future.”
PAAAMMI, an organization of over 300 medical specialists who are trained in both invasive and noninvasive treatment modalities, such as cosmetic and plastic surgeons, age management specialists, aesthetic and clinical dermatologists, and multispecialty physicians, adopts a holistic approach to regenerative medicine. It is affiliated with the Philippine Medical Association and recognized by the Philippine Dermatologic Society.
PAAAMMI, a trailblazer in the cutting-edge field of aesthetic and anti-aging medicine, makes available to many Filipinos not merely scientific-based beauty procedures, but also total well-being to help prevent illness or disability. It employs modern technology to detect and treat aging-related diseases, engages in research to retard the human aging process, and educates physicians and the public on anti-aging issues. Members provide their patients globally-accepted aesthetic and age management care, an optimum of wellness, and longevity.
Its core mission is providing high-quality and cost-effective health care, through a combination of age management medicine, aesthetic medicine, and cosmetic medicine, guided by legal, ethical, and moral concerns. “Aging is not inevitable; our physicians are vanguards of technologies that can retard, suspend, and perhaps dramatically reverse the biologic deterioration and diseases that can easily be reflected when we take a gaze at ourselves in mirrors.” PAAAMMI said.
PAAAMMI is one of most active in continuing medical education, holding scientific symposiums at least thrice a month to keep its members in step with new trends and perspectives. It has conducted 46 symposiums since 2012. Its postgraduate training program in age management, cosmetic dermatology, and surgery will soon be launched. It is working on affiliation with international organizations such as the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine, the National Skin centre Singapore, Euromedicom, the forum on Adipose Tissue and Stem Cell, for further specialization of its members.
Aesthetic medicine, using non-invasive to minimally invasive cosmetic procedures, has seen an unprecedented boom in the last few years, as the world’s population is living longer, getting more active, and feeling younger, and the need for rejuvenation is ever growing. It originated in France in1978, and has since evolved as a modern specialty that prevents and corrects alteration in natural beauty. Anti-aging medicine originated in the United States in 1993, and has since enriched research and studies related to origin, prevention, and treatment of most age-related disorders, that can be healed by professional Medical intervention.
Aesthetic medicine and anti-aging medicine, the “science of the new millennium,” have the common objective of improving self-esteem, quality, productivity, and life expectancy.
