ARGAO, Cebu – The Cebu provincial government is asking the national government for 3.7 billion to fund road concreting and improvement projects in the province.

Of the 3.7-billion funding, 2.2 billion will be sourced from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), with the rest to be funded by the Department of Tourism (DOT).

Based on data released by the Cebu provincial government, the amount will be used for provincial roads and those leading to tourism areas in the province.

If and when the budget is approved, Cebu’s second legislative district, the biggest in the province, will get the lion’s share from the DILG at over 1 billion. The amount will cover provincial roads in the towns of Argao ( 207.1 million), Dalaguete ( 23.4 million), Alcoy ( 19.2 million), Boljoon ( 38.7 million), Oslob ( 18.4 million), Santander ( 93.9 million), Samboan ( 128.3 million), Ginatilan ( 24.4 million), Malabuyoc ( 97.1 million), Alegria ( 219.6 million), Moalboal ( 66.3 million), Alcantara ( 95.9 million), Ronda ( 7.9 million), and Dumanjug ( 57.3 million).

Also, the province’s first district will seek 264.4 million for road projects from the DILG; 385.5 million by the third district, 210.3 million by the fourth district, 222.2 million by the fifth district and 22 million by Cebu’s sixth district.

So far this year, the national government has already poured 1.8 billion worth of road projects in Cebu.

According to the Office of the Cebu Provincial Engineer, in a presentation during a recent Provincial Development Council sectoral committee meeting, the funds were coursed through the DOT and DILG.

A total of 1.5 billion, out of the 1.8 billion spent by the national government for roads here, was downloaded through the DOT for roads leading to tourist sites, according to a report given by Provincial Engineer Hector Jamora.
