Thousands join colorful grand opening of ‘Linggo ng Bulakan’

MALOLOS CITY, Bulacan — Street plays depicting the province’s glorious past and colorful floats highlighte­d yesterday the opening ceremonies of the annual week-long Singkaban Festival also known as “Linggo ng Bulakan”, which also coincides with the feast day of the Immaculate Concepcion of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the patron saint at the Basilica Minore (formerly the Malolos Cathedral) here.

Mark Lapid, the chief operating officer of the Tourism Infrastruc­ture and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA), joined thousands of Bulakeños in the opening ceremony of the weeklong Singkaban Festival.

Lapid was the guest of honor and speaker of the said mother of all Bulacan fiestas, the “Singkaban Festival,” which culminates on September 15 with the anniversar­y of the historic Malolos Congress at the Barasoain Church.

More than 5,000 Bulakeños who participat­ed in the celebratio­n which started with a thanksgivi­ng mass were welcomed by Vice Governor Daniel R. Fernando.

At 8 a.m., the Skills Demo and Livelihood Fair was opened in front of the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium in this city in a bid to create awareness on the importance of skills as a tool in acquiring employment.

Governor Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said that the provincial government is doing its best to give assistance to unemployed Bulakenyos and encourages them to take hold of such opportunit­y.

Among the skills demonstrat­ed were food processing, hair cutting, cellphone repair, beads-making, massage therapy and waste recycling.

The trainers who will enhance the skills of the participan­ts are from Community-Based Trainers Associatio­n of Bulacan (CBTAB) and Sagip Kalikasan Dulot ay Kabuhayan (SKDP).
